360 Awake

We all do some things unconsciously that surprise us when we think of them. Why do we do that? Here are two things that we might do well to consider. We have time.

359 Weather & News

It is the little things that sometimes make a real difference in our life. How do you spend your time? Listening to weather and news? Sometimes we do things without realizing what we are doing.

358 Following Your Children

Retirement sometimes gives us a chance to reunite our families. Though schools and jobs may have separated us from siblings and children we may now have a chance to reunite. Those grandchildren send out a strong signal. Should we move? Or not?

357 Home Exchange

Traveling is one thing many retired people like to do. The experience can be greatly enhanced by exchanging your residence for someone else's. Home Exchange provides a wonderful means for arranging such swaps. We have found our experiences greatly enriched and no money is involved.

356 Tai Chi and the Lost Wallet

Tai Chi has proven itself over hundreds of years to many people. It is good for us. Seeing it practiced and losing my wallet left a lasting impression.

355 Granddaughters and History

We could all use a map of what might happen if we turn one direction or another. We would like to know which roads lead into a box canyon. That is where experience comes in. It would be well to know what has happened to others that have traveled this road.

354 The Con Game

Being taken advantage of is a serious matter. The con, or the scam, is always in fashion one way or the other. They can have tragic results and produce compelling stories.

353 Advantages of Aging

There are some advantages to aging. One is that we have higher BS radar. We learn to be a better judge of character. We have been around the block and can more easily spot the good from the bad. At least we hope so.

352 Time is Ticking

Experiences in retirement bring a sharp focus on the time we have to live. If we are paying attention we get an extra incentive to make our time count. Our end can pop up unexpectedly.

351 Road Trip Reflections

According to the cult of happiness the last phase to be practiced is reflection. We look back and consider what we have done or what has happened and hopefully enjoy the memories.

350 On the Road

After all the talk about doing a Road Trip I feel like I owe my listeners a glimps into how things worked out.

348 Road Trip Ideas

How many ways are there to cross a river? Taking a road trip also presents an endless variety of choices. In the last podcast I talked about our present plan to venture out on the highway in the fall.

347 Road Trip Planning

Part of the fun of taking a road trip: getting out the maps, noting where we have been, finding spots we have not. We try to allow a lot of flexibility in this area. While looking at places to include we try to calculate the distance and days.

346 Looking forward

"You always have to have something you are looking forward to". I heard that recently as a bit of advice for retired people. It is one of those little bit of wisdom that seems to make perfect sense.

345 Meaning in Life

You can read all sorts of scholarly works to support one train of thought or another. One philosophy or another: one religion or another. This process of giving meaning to ones own life has worked for me.

344 (revised 020) Finding Meaning in Life

What is it that gives meaning to life? Is there an out; an exit? Is there a way we can be aware of our modern predicament, our place in the universe, and yet find a way to meet tomorrow with hope?

Road Trip USA Series Many retired folks dream of taking an extended road trip across America. Follow us as we plan our trips and actually ride the road. There are two trips taken and described: A. Western, Southern and Southeastern Edge of America and B. American West.
